Reason Alliance, Ltd., was formed in 2014 by Malcolm Jarry and Douglas Mesner. The non-profit is designed to encourage empathy and rationalism, promote justice, reject tyrannical authority, and advocate for pragmatic common sense. We endorse activities that promote these core values.
One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.
Beliefs should conform to one’s best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one’s beliefs.
People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one’s best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.
One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.
The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
Every value is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.
The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one’s own.
Reason Alliance
Reason Alliance devises and engages in efforts to ensure that women are able to receive reproductive care including access to abortion services. By partnering with religious organizations, Reason Alliance utilizes privileges and exemptions that are afforded to these groups which promote bodily autonomy and adhere to best scientific practices.
Reason Alliance believes that the disciplinary tactics, such as corporal punishment, solitary confinement, physical restraint, and bathroom deprivation, that many public schools subject children to are barbaric, cruel, and inhumane. Reason Alliance is working to eradicate these practices from public schools to promote treating children with empathy, dignity, and respect for their bodily autonomy.
Reason Alliance actively endeavors to expose and terminate pseudoscientific mental health care practices that are harmful to patients and simply do not comport with established scientific fact. Appropriate oversight of clinicians who have been responsible for grave harm is desperately lacking.
Reason Alliance offers after-school programs in public schools that promote self-directed education by supporting students' intellectual and creative interests. Reason Alliance’s after-school clubs are centered on a scientific, rationalist worldview. Our goal is to provide both parents and children with an environment that is safe, educational, fun, and free from harmful rhetoric. Our clubs are supervised by adult volunteers that have passed extensive background checks, completed our comprehensive training curriculum, and have been thoroughly vetted for their professionalism, social responsibility, and superior communication skills.
